Birds of a Feather

An old proverb says, “Birds of a Feather Flock Together!” This is certainly an accurate observation of the human tendency to be attracted to people who have much in common with us.

As I was thinking about some of my closest friends this week, this old saying came to mind. Of course, my immediate family and my church family are the dearest people on earth to me; but, outside of these close circles of people, my two closest friends are very, very much like me.

They are men, near my age, (one is a few years older and the other a few years younger) white guys with grey hair, Baptist pastors, book lovers, and – we disagree on very, very few points of doctrine!

It’s true – Birds of a Feather Flock Together! I guess there are two lessons here:

First, we ought to think about and be thankful for our dear friends…

Second, I need to build close relationships with people who are very different from me!

How about you?

    Doc:
It’s hard to believe that we’ve prayed, cried, laughed, worshipped, gone soul-winning, played golf, struggled, confessed, forgiven, shared meals, trusted each other, loved each other, loaned each other money, attended classes, graduated, served, travelled together, and been a friend that could be counted on for more that 35 years! I believe that’s what REAL friendship is all about. THANKS. For knowing you we’re always there for me when I needed you. YOU ARE A REAL FRIEND! Pat Pajak

    • It certainly has been an amazing journey over these many years since I first met you in September of – are you ready for this – 1977! You have been my friend, my pastor, and one of my heroes for all of these years. I thank God upon every thought of you and your dear family. I am thankful for the hundreds and hundreds of people who have come to the Lord under your ministry. I am thankful that you are my IBSA AED! I look forward to every moment I am able to meet with you, or hear you teach and preach. I have had lots of friends and acquaintances who have come and gone over these years, but your continual and continuing presence in my life is truly a blessing divine. I guess you are in Rockford tonight and tomorrow. Be careful out there, it is going to be icy tomorrow.
