SERMON: “THE GREATEST THING JESUS EVER DID!”

John 1:1-3; 14

(1) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) He was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

(14) “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

INTRODUCTION:

1. All through the Old Testament, we are promised over and over again that God, HIMSELF, will come to earth and do many wonderful things!

2. In the New Testament Epistles, the Apostles explain to us what the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ mean to the world!

3. In the Book of Revelation, we are shown all of the wonderful things that Jesus Christ is going to do in the future!

4. All through the Four Gospels, we are given a description of Jesus Christ and the many wonderful things that HE did:

5. HE saved and discipled hundreds of people!

6. In addition to 20 mass healings recorded in the Four Gospels, Jesus healed 31 specific individuals!

7. The writers of the Four Gospels reveal to us that in addition to the many who were raised from the dead at the time of HIS resurrection, Jesus Christ raised three people from the dead…

*The daughter of the Widow in the Village of Nain! Luke 7:13-15

*The son of Jarius!  Mark 5:42; Luke 8:55

*Lazarus, the brother of Martha and Mary!  John 11:23-40

8. The writers of the Four Gospels also tell us that Jesus cast demons out of at least 24 different people!

9. Jesus fed 5,000 hungry people on one occasion and 4,000 more a few days later!

10. Jesus Christ allowed HIMSELF to be arrested, beaten, nailed to a Cross, speared through the heart, wrapped in rags, and thrown in a grave in order to pay for our sins!

11. Three days later, Jesus Christ willed HIMSELF back to life and rose from the dead!

12. Forty days later, Jesus ascended to HIS Father in Heaven from the Mt of Olives!

QUESTION: Of all of these wonderful things Jesus Christ did, what is THE BEST THING HE EVER DID?

EXPOSITION:

THE GREATEST THING JESUS CHRIST EVER DID WAS TO COME TO THIS EARTH AS A HUMAN BABY IN ORDER TO DO EVERYTHING ELSE THAT HE DID!

Matthew 1:18-25

(18) “Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. (19) And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. (20) But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (21) She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (22) All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: (23) “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel”(which means, God with us).

(24) When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, (25) but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.”

Because HE is God Who came to live and die on earth, Jesus Christ was conceived by a virgin!

Because HE came to earth to save sinners, HE was named “Jesus” which means, JEHOVAH is Salvation!

(1:21) “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Jesus Christ is the prophesied Messiah of Israel!

(1:22-23) “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).”

The Son of God, the Second Person of the HOLY TRINITY, came to this earth as a human being. HE lived a sinless life, perfectly obeyed the Law of God, died on the cross to pay for our sins, and three days later… HE rose from the dead!

(1:24-25) When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.”

APPLICATION:

THE GREATEST THING JESUS CHRIST EVER DID WAS COME TO THIS EARTH TO SAVE SINNERS; AND HE IS STILL WILLING TO SAVE ANYONE WHO WILL REPENT OF YOUR SINS AND BELIEVE IN HIM AS YOUR SAVIOR AND LORD!
