A Word from THE WORD
Good Morning Happy Church,
Today is Wednesday, February 17th, 2016. Today is the 48th Day of 2016.
Today is Carolyn and Gene Greek’s Anniversary!
Today is Tim Walker’s Birthday!
There are only 318 days left in this year; and, there are only 53 Days Left until Our Spring Revival Begins!
We will begin the Revival Meetings on Saturday, April 9th with a Banquet and Sermon at 6pm.
Sunday, April 10th, we will hear Bro Bobby at 10am and again at 6pm.
Monday and Tuesday, April 11th and 12, we will hear Bro Bobby at 7pm each night!
Please clear your schedule to attend as many of these meetings as possible.
As I often say, “The two things you have to invest to be blessed are your Attendance and your Attention!”
Please be in prayer for Dr. Bobby and Sandra Boyles as they travel here and back.
Pray that God will pour out HIS SPIRIT on us as never before!
Pray for the salvation of the lost; repentance and renewal in the life of God’s people; new people to become part of our Church Family; the calling out of ministers and missionaries; a spiritual awakening in our area; and, for Jesus Christ to be glorified in all that we do!
Matthew 6:7-13
7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
What do we want to see God do?
As we think about praying for revival, I think it will be a good investment of our time to think about that for which we are praying.
Using the model prayer as an outline, let’s focus first of all where Jesus focused first…
Let’s pray that as a result of the upcoming revival, we will hallow God’s Name!
OK… just what does that mean?
John Piper writes, “The word “hallow” means sanctify. The same Greek word stands behind both English words. Jesus tells us to pray, “Let your name be sanctified.”
Sanctify can mean make holy or treat as holy. When God sanctifies us, it means that he makes us holy. But when we sanctify God, it means that we treat him as holy.
So Jesus is teaching us to pray that God would cause his name to be treated as holy. And our question becomes, what does it mean to treat God as holy?
What are we asking God to do when we pray that he cause his name to be treated as holy?”
Some time ago, we gave out lots of copies of R. C. Sproul’s life-changing book, “The Holiness of God.”
We did that to help us remember WHO it is that we serve and that HE, and HIS Name, and HIS Kingdom work ought to be holy to us!
An evidence of our need for revival is how we feel about God and HIS Name.
I would never think of God as “my celestial bellhop” – never, never, never; but, I must admit to my shame that I do sometimes treat HIM that way.
I remember a former White House Usher talking about a certain President who only spoke to him when he wanted something from him. When I heard that, my first thought was, “what a jerk.”
When I think of the fact that I often treat God the same way, I look at myself and think “what a jerk.”
I hear sometimes people speaking of God and HIS Name in a very casual, or even callous, way; but, that is for another time.
For now, let us focus on how we see God and the place HE holds and the role HE plays in our life.
If HE is not breath-takingly special to us, if HE is not more to us than merely a source of blessings or a “fire escape out of hell”; Beloved, we need revival!
May God revive us and grant us a spiritual awakening over these days that will bring us to the place where the very thought of HIM fills us with awe and wonder.
May God and HIS Name be held as holy by us. May others also see that in us!
Revival CAN happen, it really CAN happen!
Will we really have revival?
We will soon see!
Carpe Diem!
