Genesis 3:21 “And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.”
Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.”
Hebrews 9:11-14 “But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.”
Hebrews 9:22 “Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”
1st Peter 1:18-21 “Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for your sake, who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”
1st John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Philosophers, and Sociologists have spent hundreds of years, millions of dollars, and a billion gallons of printer’s ink trying to figure out the answer to the human dilemma. How do we change the broken nature of humans?
Of course, they are still arguing over the source of the human problem; is it nature, or is it nurture? Well, we know the human problem is our fallen, broken, sinful condition. Nothing that humans research, affirm, and apply to the problem is going to succeed because our problem is a spiritual one and not a psychological or emotional one.
Our problem is sin! Therefore, repentance from our sins and an active faith in Jesus Christ is the one and only cure!
It is not surprising to me at all that God defines both the cause and the cure in just a few verses in the Book of Genesis! Man thinks he has his own answer. From (3:7) what is Adam’s answer to their problem? HINT: It is the basic framework of the largest world-wide false religion on earth!
There are many forms of this basic error, but they all have one thing in common – they do not work. There is of course only one single thing on earth that can make right what has gone wrong in the lives of Adam and Eve! That is what our sermon this coming Lord’s is all about! Think about the fact that after 6,000 years of human experience on earth and 6,000 years of man dealing with God, the answer to our problem has not changed. It has not changed.
God’s answer to our problem is simple – (3/21)
As we think about “God’s Simple Plan of Salvation” we will trace God’s provision for our salvation throughout both the Old and New Testaments.
– We will follow it from Eden to Egypt;
– We will follow it from Egypt to Jericho;
– We will follow it from Jericho to the Tabernacle;
– We will follow it from the Tabernacle to the Temple in Jesus’ day;
– In Jesus’ day it goes from another Garden, to Gabbatha, to the Guardhouse, to Golgotha, to a Grave, and then on to Glory!
Since man’s problem doesn’t change, neither does God’s answer and provision change! God’s answer and provision has often and rightly been called “The Scarlet Thread of Redemption.” And – as the LORD allows – we will follow that thread from Eden to Heaven in one sermon! (At least I hope and plan to do this in one sermon…)
Here is God’s simple plan and provision for salvation:
“The B__________ of the I___________ is shed to pay for the S________ of the G____________________!”
I hope you will take time to read through and think through these verses and my comments as you prepare to hear the Word of God this coming LORD’S DAY…
As my dear friend Tom Rains always says, “I hope to see you Sunday with a smile on your face, your Bible in your hand, and your family and friends by your side!”
